Mana Pools

Overview

A UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Zambezi's floodplain, Mana Pools is renowned for walking safaris and canoe trails through some of Africa's most pristine wilderness, with towering albida trees and elephant that famously stand on hind legs to browse.

Best Time to Visit

Late August to October, when the floodplain dries out and animals concentrate along the Zambezi's edge, offering superb walking and canoeing conditions.

Wildlife

Large elephant and buffalo herds, lion, wild dog, and prolific plains game along the river, plus hippo and crocodile in the Zambezi itself.

Accommodation Options

Small, exclusive tented camps set directly on the floodplain, most with no fencing — an authentic, low-impact way to experience the bush.

Activities

Guided walking safaris, canoeing along the Zambezi, and game drives through the floodplain and mopane woodland.
